Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Books Premiere at LAFF

Word just over the transom reports that the Los Angeles Film Festival will host the US premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on June 22. It makes the festival two-for-two as the launching pad for Michael Bay's explodey toy-adaptation epics, promising the year's single biggest concentration of star power and massive robot statues on the streets of Westwood. And the best part: You can get tickets.

Sure, the prospect of a $200 million-plus Baystravaganza may not reconcile so easily with the mandate of fest sponsors Film Independent, but who wouldn't invite Shia, Megan, and a few cuddly Autobots to his or her viewing party? (Especially after the last one went so well.) And as mentioned, Discovery, Industry and Fast passes will get you through the door for your own first look -- along with admittance to the rest of the fest's selections -- a few days before the film opens wide June 26.

More information is here; send a shout-out and we'll save you a seat.

Okay, I'll just go ahead and say this now: I don't think Michael Bay knows how to direct transforming robots.
They just look like scratchy doodles come to life when the transform into/from something. It's like someone took the transformer toys from my youth and dropped them into the garbage disposal.

Yeah, the best parts of these movies (so far) is when Shia LaBouef gets to riff and be wacky. When the robots start doing things, it's exhilarating for a bit, then it's blurry and kind of sad.

  • Inhaler says:

Those Decepticons better rip the clothes right off Shia within the first 5 minutes.
