Dan Aykroyd Wants Ghostbusters 3 For Christmas
Years of speculation about the future of the Ghostbusters franchise came down to one loaded exchange Tuesday, when Dan Aykroyd vaguely committed his fellow 'Busters to a third installment that will shoot some time this winter. No rush, gang!
The rumored development hold-ups are what you probably figured they are -- script haggles and Bill Murray's wavering in particular, and, according to Aykroyd, maybe or maybe not in that order:
"I don't put not making the third movie on Billy. We can't do that. I've been very busy. Harold's been busy, Ivan's been busy. And a third script really didn't coalesce properly. [...] Hey, listen, [Murray]'s an artist. You can't force somebody into it. I'm sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we're at a point that there's a story that he can accept and that's going to work, and I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter."
Mysteries remain as to what they're producing, however. Sigourney Weaver should play into it somehow, and Aykroyd acknowledged an interest in passing the team's proton packs to a "five-member 'new generation' team with several female members." His top picks: Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku. Wow. Why so modest? I hear Rose McGowan is available these days. Who else?

Come on, if we're going to have a Ghostbusters 3, we need to have the Ghostbusters-pass-on-the-torch-to-the-Apatow-crew movie that we've all been waiting for.
Bill Murray is mentor to Paul Rudd.
Dan Akroyd is mentor to Seth Rogan.
Harold Ramis is mentor to Michael Cera.
Ernie Hudson is mentor to Craig Robinson.
Rick Moranis is mentor to McLovin.
Slimer is mentor to Jonah Hill.
Come one, let's get $150 million together and get this thing in the theatres!
A neat twist would be for one of the ancient Ghostbusters to break a hip while fighting a ghost, then become a ghost himself. Now that's a movie!
Ray Parker Jr. was overheard to say during his lunch break at the car wash, "It's about fucking time!"
Wow. I can't wait.
Yawn.
Funniest part of the interview - Aykroyd saying he's been really busy lately ...
LOL @ Ray Parker Jr.
@ Christian TOTO:
anyone from maine and definitely around bangor knows Dan Aykroyd does the 10:40 blues brake which runs to noon, on Stephen kings radio station 100.3 wkit.
And you only have to wiki his name to find out hes done some movie every year minus 2006.
Your entitled to your opinion but I dare you to say your more busy than this guy...for a nobody your high on yourself, for no reason other than trying to bring other people down without seeing them.
The only difference between you and I, is I don't feel good about having to bring you down.
As written, Ghostbusters 3 reads more like a vanity project for old timers. However, I am speculating that Producers will go for a younger cast - say, Megan Fox, Vanessa Hudgens, Chace Crawford, or Zac Efron. As for the theme song, it will be provided by the Jonas Brothers. LOL.
