Hollywood Blogger Fails to Note Crucial Jewfro Difference Between 1979 Albert Brooks And Present-Day Guillaume Canet
Along with our own man Dave Bourgeois, Hollywood Elsewhere's Jeffrey Wells has been promenading around the Croisette, taking in the sights, sounds, and obscure, decrepit French stars of the Cannes Film Festival. Today, Wells stumbled upon a bus shelter ad of a handsome man, which he captioned, "It took me a few seconds to realize who this is. Taken in Cannes either 28 or 30 years ago, I'm guessing. If I say for which films I'll be giving it away."
The file is named "albertbrooks.jpg." Wells' commenters were quick to correct him, however, pointing out the man in the photo is actually French superstar Guillaume Canet, of The Beach and Tell No One, and gently explaining that while there is a passing resemblance, the former has a "jewfro you can see from space." We've placed an era-appropriate photo of Brooks next to Canet, just to clear up any confusion.
As you can see, the angsts are completely different.

Weird - if you were going to confuse Canet with another actor, he looks a lot more like current Patrick Dempsey than 30-years-ago Albert Brooks. (Not that you'd have much reason to expect McDreamy to appear in a French bus shelter ad, but whatever.)
Totally looks like Patrick Dempsey.
Wait, have I missed where some other blog has posted about this site not getting the joke? Is this like movie site snark tennis?
I'm no Wells apologist but whenever he posts a snippet of dialogue or a film score then challenges his readers to guess what it is, he tends to name the file something silly/clever just for giggles.
Stellar Cannes coverage though. Keep up the good work.
Is Canet Italian for hot? Damn.
Make that French, ha.
Seth -- I stand corrected and humbled, but that photo of Albert Brooks is NOT era-appropriate. I can tell from the close-cropped hair that it's from the era of "Lost in America" ('85) and not "Real Life" ('79). Brooks definitely had a mild Jewfro thing going on in the mid to late '70s. -- Jeffrey Wells from Cannes.
