Star Trek Lightning Round: Kirk Meets Kirk, J.J. Abrams Grilled

The winds from the coming Trek-ocalypse are whipping the walls of Movieline HQ, forcing immediate evacuations for all non-essential personnel. Those of us who remain are committed to bringing you the latest news from the eye of the storm, including J.J. Abrams's date with Charlie Rose and some mindbending Kirk-on-Kirk (and even Spock-on-Spock) action.

· Blow off 20 minutes of work this morning and check out J.J. Abrams's recent appearance on The Charlie Rose Show [via /film]. Hopefully the Trek director's gravitas and deliberation will calm down the Trekkies still furious that his reboot is too "fun [and] watchable":

· While you're procrastinating, what's another minute to witness the historic Kirk Summit between Chris Pine and William Shatner? Eat your heart out, George Takei.

· As of this writing, the film is at 100% positive at Rotten Tomatoes. Cue David Poland: "I wish the film were better (or wasn't so sure it was)... or in any way memorable. But I suspect that the next one might be much more fun for me."

· The AP reports that some hardcore Trekkies are actually ready for a franchise reboot. But just in case, Eric Bana further courts the "non-fan" in a new video at the Guardian.

· We all know that Zachary Quinto has a bit of a complex about living in the long shadow of Spock. But you tell me: Does Leonard Nimoy's endorsement makes matters better or worse in the long run?

· Patrick Goldstein has a posse. That is all.

The actress playing Uhura seems perfect. I hope she got a bigger role than tradition dictated.

Ok, you are not allowed to use the word Trek-ocalypse ever again. Unless you can say it 10 times fast.
