1. Most male film buffs would rather do something else than square off with Roselyn Sanchez, but the Puerto Rican-born former beauty queen kicked major butt as an undercover agent in Rush Hour 2, with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, and in Basic, with John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson. All this rock-'em, sock-'em action has high-kicked Sanchez out of her TV career ("Fame LA.") and onto the big screen, but the singer/dancer/actress says that ultimately she's a lover, not a fighter. Things get cozier in Boat Trip, also due out this year. The role of a female choreographer on a gay cruise ship in this romantic comedy was originally meant for a white girl named Britt. But once the suits saw Sanchez, they renamed the character Gabriela and even gave her a few lines in Spanish--and lots of make-out scenes with costar Cuba Gooding Jr.
2. Fashion designer Rami Kashoú has spun a new take on body consciousness. Eschewing tight fit and garish colors, he drapes clothing gently around the body in unexpected ways that emphasize the wearer, not what's worn. Actresses gravitate towards his creations for their romantic innocence offset with a boldness that requires a strong personality to pull off. The 26-year-old Kashoú says, "It celebrates the whole woman, not just a body part."
