Josh Brolin: Flirting With Success
As the son of a TV icon--his father is James Brolin--Josh Brolin has been knocking around showbiz all his life, and acting nearly that long. After his big-screen debut at 17 in The Goonies, he starred in the "The Young Riders" on TV. Lately, he's been back on screen in higher-visibility films, Bed of Roses and Flirting With Disaster. In the latter, he set hearts afire as Tony, the bisexual ATF agent who seduces Patricia Arquette's armpits.

ALYEA SALEM: How did you land your role in Flirting With Disaster?
JOSH BROLIN: I was living in New York at the time and hanging out with this guy in Los Angeles. I was helping him with his audition (for the part of Tony in Flirting) and I ended up falling in love with the script and the character of Tony as well. To make a long story short--I ended up getting the part I was helping him get. Sorry to say I haven't seen him since.
Q: Charming. I did think there was great chemistry between you and Patricia Arquette. Did you audition together?
A: No, but we've known each other socially for years.
Q: How did you happen to entangle your tongue in her silky white armpits?
A: Basically, we were filming your typical love scene and it wasn't really working, so we wanted to come up with something ... different. [Laughs]
Q: Can we expect more pit action with Arquette in your newest film together, Nightwatch?
A: [Laughs] No, it's a psychological thriller. I play the insane, lost-identity best friend. The audience will think I'm evil.
Q: Is it savvy to play someone the audience thinks is a baddie? I mean, don't you think actors today have to kind of market themselves?
A: I think that's a reality. But I don't market myself. I never have and I never will.
Q: One last question. I know your dad starred with Connie Sellecca on TV's "Hotel." Did you hear her statement that she and John Tesh didn't have sex until after their wedding?
A: What? I never heard that. You're making that up. [Laughs] That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
