First Look at HBO Horse Racing Series Luck from Michael Mann

It's been nearly two years since Michael Mann last released a film (Public Enemies), but that doesn't mean that the Chicago director/writer/producer hasn't been busy. To prove this much, HBO uploaded a sneak peak of Luck, the original drama series that Mann is executive producing about the kind of people who frequent a horse racing track. Like Dustin Hoffman -- who in his first starring television role -- plays "Ace," the Tony Soprano of the track set.

Nick Nolte joins Hoffman as a Kentucky trainer "with a lot of mileage on him and a shadowy past," while Luck also stars John Ortiz, Joan Allen and Dennis Farina. Mann directed the pilot, which was written by David Milch (NYPD Blue and Deadwood). The series will premiere this fall. Early thoughts?
