Sympathy for Delicious wasn't exactly the toast of Sundance 2010, but with a cast that includes Orlando Bloom, Laura Linney, Juliette Lewis, Noah Emmerich, John Carroll Lynch, screenwriter Christopher Thornton, and first-time director Mark Ruffalo, it earns a second look in its new trailer. We can quibble about the use of Rolling Stones lyrics to illustrate the movie's theme of healing, but at least "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" stays out of the fray.
Sure, the "You Can't Always Get What You Want" quote is a little obvious, but it looks like the charms of Sympathy for Delicious might be surprisingly subtle. Thornton, a real-life paraplegic who penned this story about a man whose healing powers serve everyone but him, is surrounded by actors who handle soft touches with aplomb. Even the relatively fearsome Juliette Lewis and Orlando Bloom look comfortable in this mix. I question the cappuccino haze that seems to hang over the cinematography, but I actually plan on seeing this. I can't only look forward to Super 8 and Bridesmaids, guys.
Sympathy for Delicious opens April 29.
