Here's a fortune cookie-type question for a lazy August Monday: Will Matthew Wilder's Inferno actually exist as a movie or is his Lindsay Lohan-as-Linda Lovelace exploitation-cum-biopic -- ahem -- only a collection of Tyler Shields photographs? Thankfully, some newly released footage helps shed some light on this.
Shot back in May, before Lohan was sentence to 90 days in jail -- and wound up serving just 13 -- the video showcases the photo shoot that became the basis of the Inferno poster and subsequent production stills. Lohan is shown cavorting around a seedy hotel room and saying irony free things like, "[Inferno] just tells the story of someone that really kind of got caught up in this world that she never really asked to be involved in."
Wilder, for his part, explains what the scene in question is really all about:
"Chuck [Lovelace's future ex-husband] brings her to a motel room, but she's still almost a virgin. He brought her to a room full of guys and didn't really tell her what was gonna happen. And he took her to the bathroom and said, 'OK, you're gonna f*** all these guys now.' The stuff we did in here tonight is sort of an abstract version of that."
OK then! The video is all kinds of creepy -- in no small part because of the mournful music cues and static images -- but it's proof that Inferno might not be a glorified flip book. This is allegedly still happening, so expect to see it in theaters sometime next year. Maybe.
