If you can't wait until the Emmerichian disasterpiece 2012 arrives in theaters next month, then it's your lucky day. Rather, Oct. 27 is your lucky day, because that's when the good people at The Asylum -- those geniuses who brought you Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus -- unveil their schlocky new grab-your-family-and-flee-the-apocalypse knockoff 2012: Supernova on DVD. Click through for the trailer.
A cursory bit of research implies that the 2012 prefix was only added to Supernova at some point along the post-production line; after all, The Asylum had already released 2012 Doomsday last year. But after viewing the tone-deaf hysteria of the trailer below -- some of which actually portends better acting than the John Cusack/Amanda Peet/Woody Harrelson-led ensemble of Roland Emmerich's film -- it's pretty clear which big-budget tentpole inspired the filmmakers.
Like Mega Shark, I wouldn't have believed it if it weren't already available for sale. Throw a Danny Gokey love theme for maximum Z-grade verisimilitude, and maybe you've got the sleeper hit of the fall.
