The Last Burning Question About Prometheus

Prometheus Spoilers Script

It's way simpler and more straightforward than you might think! "What I don't understand is, why is there not a script editor who is hired before shooting begins, to read the script with notes as to if or not it makes basic narrative sense. This seems like a minor storytelling investment to make. I should not have to read some dude's insane 4500+ word Space Jesus theory (WHICH IS WRONG) about Prometheus after the fact in order to understand Prometheus. Prometheus should make sense on a basic storytelling level." [The Awl]

  • Yes. Basic storytelling, like characters who are more than plot devices.

I know nothing about movies or writing a script nor do I in any way assume I could ever do better, but sometimes even I'm like, "Hey do you guys want me to read this over before you film it next time? Just as someone with basic reasoning skills and who is not afraid to say 'wtf'? I work for cheap (wine)."

I said it in the other thread, and I'll say it again here :

The biggest "clue" is Lindelof's addition of the references to Lawrence of Arabia - a man who once said

"All the revision in the world will not save a bad first draft: for the architecture of the thing comes, or fails to come, in the first conception, and revision only affects the detail and ornament, alas!"

Right there he acknowledges all of problems a script doctor faces, with probably too little time, not enough influence, and too much resistance from the studio to do anything significant about it.

  • Of course it's more straightforward. It's almost a shot for shot remake of Star Trek V.

Except instead of a campfire singalong there's a future abortion machine that the girl with the dragon tattoo fails to mention to ANYBODY ON THE SHIP removed a fucking alien out of here.

There's nothing difficult to understand about this story. Just because all of the questions aren't answered doesn't mean there's something wrong with the narrative. If you couldn't keep up with the film, that's a personal shortcoming.

If you didn't realize that the scene transitions didn't make sense then that's your personal shortcoming.
