Edgar Wright's Trilogy-Ender The World's End Gets Start Date, Synopsis

Shaun of the DeadRejoice, Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz faithful! At long last, the eagerly anticipated threequel in Edgar Wright's "Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy" (AKA "The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy" -- Wright's version of Kieślowski's Colors series) is on its way. Deadline reports that The World's End, to be directed by Wright with collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost starring, is set to begin filming this September with fingers crossed for a spring 2013 release. But wait, there's more! Get a taste of the trio's upcoming shenanigans from the film's synopsis, which promises adventure, friendship, and -- what else? -- pubs.

The only catch: According to the report, Universal "hasn’t yet green lit the film." But Wright and Co. are charging ahead anyway with the fall start anyway! Good luck to 'em. (And good luck holding your breath, Ant-Man-watchers...)

The set-up:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Did Deadline use some pc editing? There's no way an Englishman used the phrase "cigarette end". Different word.

Hehe! Yes, the phrase puzzled me too but I didn't make the connection. Still proudly British, clearly (maybe they didn't even realise most American sites reprinting the synopsis would have to edit it). Movieline: The cigarette end is the bit you light. The "fag end" (not really a divisible phrase) is when it's burnt right down to the filter/the bit you're holding. "Cigarette end" is simply not the same thing. "Butt end" is much more like it (!)

Thing is, it's an odd phrase anyway. I'm presuming they mean "trapped" in the sense of Joe Jackson's "Nineteen Forever" and not literally suspended at 19 - though with these guys you never know - but it kinda suggests the worst bit of your teens is the end, which generally is very far from true (it gets better, kids!) Yes, I get it, he's been there for 20 years = dead-end, but that's a bit different.

      Or maybe I'm overthinking this.
