Maurice Sendak Dead at 83; Watch Spike Jonze's Doc Portrait

Maurice Sendak RIP

Because losing one indelible artist last Friday apparently wasn't enough, the cosmos has now claimed illustrator and author Maurice Sendak. The creator of Where the Wild Things Are reportedly suffered a stroke last Friday and died early today at a hospital in Danbury, Conn. He was 83.

Of the numerous ways one can remember the legendary Sendak, I'd highly recommend just putting aside the next 45 minutes to watch Spike Jonze and Lance Bangs's 2009 documentary Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak — which originally aired on HBO and, coincidentally, is available on video with numerous special features through the late Adam Yauch's Oscilloscope Labs label. Sniff. Not fair, God, just not fair.

First MCA, now Maurice Sendak, we should all be praying for Charlie Kaufman. Someone is obviously going after Spike Jonze's friends.
