Great Moments in Baseball: The Ring's Sadako Throws First Pitch at Japanese Game

This is officially the most brilliant ceremonial first pitch gimmick ever staged, just narrowly beating out that time Bill Murray ran the bases and slid into home at Wrigley Field: Yesterday at Japan's Tokyo Dome, Ringu/The Ring villainess Sadako (who's coming back for more in Sadako 3D, in Japanese cinemas this May) trudged to the mound to throw the first pitch before the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters battled the Chiba Lotte Marines. Somehow she managed to see through her signature wall of scary horror hair to toss a decent looper before the ghostly spirit took over and...well, just watch for yourself.

Yep. Just about the best thing ever. (Sadako entrance at 1:30.) But wait -- does this mean everyone who throws the first pitch after her is cursed?

  • Very cool, Jen!!! I like having baseball on while I write---love the game while not following any
particular team. Although....Vin Scully calling the Dodgers games gives them an edge.

"Sadako" coming on the field with small steps and zero arm movements, reminded me a
LOT of "Cousin It" from the old "Addams Family" show. But with legs.

JEN! LET'S GO GET SOME DODGER DOGS!!! Everything on 'em; no hair.

Do you dress in full regalia, even to Dodger games?

      • Thanks for asking, Jen. No, wearing all the costuming to Dodgers Stadium would make us cranky. We usually wear Klingon LET'S MAKE A DEAL t-shirts and headpieces. Pants and
shoes too. We like to blend in.

Now, if you need a shirt or forehead, Jen, let me know. I'll bring some spares to the
        DooDah Parade for you.

Does she have an endorsement deal for the spikes she is wearing?

  • Brad Slager says:

This is a crass affront to the vaunted sport of baseball and it brings down the honor of a game that properly celebrates the nobility of sausage races.

  • Keyboard overlays may be convenient—they take up fairly a bit
less area than a full keyboard, they usually do not require batteries or charging—however I personally do not discover them to be sufficient of an enchancment
over the iPad's on-display keyboard to make them worth the cost.
