Richard Gere Renounces, Misses Point on Pretty Woman

"'It’s my least favorite thing. [...] People ask me about that movie, but I’ve forgotten it. That was a silly romantic comedy. [Arbitrage] is a much more serious movie that has some real cause and effect.' Incredibly, the grumpy star also claims his Pretty Woman character Edward Lewis helped contribute to the global financial crisis, as he glorified greedy and selfish Wall Street types. 'It made those guys seem dashing, which was so wrong,' Richard explains. 'Thankfully, today, we are all more skeptical of those guys.'" Except for hookers! Some things never change. Is Richard Gere referring to the same Pretty Woman movie I watched? He sure didn't make Wall Street types seem dashing. The character CHANGED during the movie. His peers did come off like greedy, selfish pigs. Also, his failed relationships related his detachment issues.

Seriously, he must be talking about a different movie than PW.

Perhaps the greedy one in this story was the young actor who accepted a cheesy role in a romantic comedy for the paycheck, even though it was so clearly (*eyeroll*) below his moral standards.
