Screenwriters: Can't Live With Them, Can't Ask Them to Stop Navel-Gazing

this_means_war_rev645

Can you believe that someone is accusing the writers of This Means War of being... lazy? "The fact remains, though, that most people don’t launch into film-studies lectures on a first date, not unless they’re in the movie business. When they do so in a romantic comedy it’s a giveaway that the screenwriter was too lazy and unimaginative to give their characters any hobbies that they don’t have themselves. It shifts the story even further away from reality." Seriously! It's getting bad. Someone start a human rights petition. [The Economist via The Awl]

This is such a great point, because most screenwriters look like Tom Hardy and Chris Pine and date women like Reese Witherspoon and are ALSO highly-trained CIA assassins. Obviously those lazy screenwriters, like, didn't even TRY to use their brains to come up with characters AT ALL different from themselves! Lazy lazy screenwriters!!!!

Aaron Sorkin says you should never engage people on the interwebs. See the Lemon-Lyman affair, the first episode of Studio 60, that Erica Albright lecture she gave Zuck in the restaurant in The Social Network.

In addition, not all screenwriters look like Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Some look like Brandon Routh.

Scary stuff. So many cows on a small farm or horded in an small area can not be healthy. I wonder what they will be feeding the cows and how healthy that would be for everyone.
