Hunger Games Character Posters: Profiles in Kiddie Courage

The Hunger Games preys on the box office in March, but in the meantime eight of the battledome-savvy characters are squaring off in new posters for the film. Jennifer Lawrence looks fetching under a golden haze, Lenny Kravitz looks a lot like Lenny Kravitz, and Josh Hutcherson keeps looking younger and younger. Seriously, he's wearing his Bridge to Terabithia face here.

Of course, the girl playing Rue (Amandla Stenberg) also played a younger version of Zoe Saldana in Colombiana. Do we think Haymitch looks paunchy enough here? Is Elizabeth Banks tricked out enough? I will not sleep until you answer.

I've told others here before...I have no idea what any of this shit is about. Maybe it's a sign that I'm old. Maybe it's a sign that I'm reading too much McSweeney's and not enough...whatever the hell the youths are reading. Whatever, I'm done. Sweeney Todd is on IFC right now and the world is making less and less sense. Is this what getting old feels like? Fuck...now I know what my dad feels like.

    Finally, something worth living for!

    1) If you have no idea what any of this shit is about why do you bother to read articles on The Hunger Games or comment upon them?
    2) I read and enjoy McSweeney's. I also read and enjoyed The Hunger Games. These are not mutually exclusive things.
    3) What on earth does Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd have to do with The Hunger Games? Other than they are both works with immense fandom who argue over the casting? Or is it some sort of McSweeney's = Sweeney Todd thing?

Actually, I love the Lenny Kravitz/Cinna poster. When you're introduced to Cinna in the book, the emphasis is how very normal and calm he is. And that instead of the crazy Capitol makeup, hair and wardrobe, he wears his own hair, simple dark clothes, and only a touch of gold eyeliner to bring out the gold flecks in his eyes.
I know some people are upset by this casting, but I actually find it intriguing. Cinna is supposed to be so grounded, calm and creative. He's not supposed to be flashy, but very controlled. I think that suits Lenny Kravitz. Cinna is only ever desscribed as a "young man" - I know Kravitz is nearing 50, but he's in great shape with amazing skin so I think he can do this convincingly.

Elizabeth Banks is perfect for the part of Effie and seeing this picture only proves that. Her acting will prove the rest, and I am sure it will be great. The rest of them look amazing as well.
