Nick Swardson to Bucky Larson Critics: Drop Dead

Porn-star guest critics notwithstanding: "It's a lot of work and a lot of reviewers aren't going into that movie to like it. They don't want to like it. None of those reviewers was psyched to see Bucky Larson and laugh. They go in with the mentality, fuck these guys for making another movie. They go in there to kind of headhunt. It makes me laugh because it's just so embarrassing. It makes them look like such morons. You can't review Avatar then review Bucky Larson. Comedy is so subjective, you know what I mean? To sit there and technically pick it apart is so stupid. We've never made movies for critics, so we could give a fuck." Clearly. [Splitsider]

  • David Davies says:

Good lord, it is a career ending film for pretty much everyone involved in front of the camera. Worst film I've seen for at least a decade.

  • AS says:

    Or maybe it just sucks.

  • Furious D says:

I guess he figures that if he acts like a "rebel artist" standing up against the "critics" he might get a job aside from being Adam Sandler's fluffer.
    It's not going to work.

  • j'accuse! says:

Man...if you really didn't care about what the critics said would you go on about it like that?

  • Tucker says:

Comedy might be subjective, Nick, but crap isn't. That thing couldn't shake its stank if it was bathed in alcohol and lit on fire. You knew it was in trouble when they trotted out the Happy Madison third-stringers to "talk" to the audience during its TV spots to build excitement for it. And while you don't have to compare the technical abilities of the movie with others like 'Avatar', you can judge it on competency. From the marketing alone, I could see it missed that mark.

  • It would seem Mr. Swardson is only at Step 1 or 2 (DENIAL or ANGER) of the grieving process for his likability and bankability. May Acceptance grace thine humble soul forthwith.

  • The WInchester says:

They didn't make it for the critics? It seems they didn't really make the movie with an audience in mind, either.

  • Noah James says:

Those commercials with Dante and co. were agonizing. To describe their attempt at grabbing viwers, I will use a metaphor for a horrible wingman - they were the anti-poon.

  • KevyB says:

Then exactly who DID they make it for? It only has a 1.7 score from Metacritic's non-critic Users! When you can't even put a funny scene in the trailer, you didn't make a funny movie! Which may explain its dismal $943 per screen average on opening weekend.
The stupidest thing is, critics often love stupid comedies. Dumb and Dumber, There's Something about Mary, Pineapple Express, Airplane!, the list goes on. You have to be smart to make dumb funny. Here's a hint on how to do comedy, Nicky-poo: If you think funny teeth will carry a movie, get out of the business.
