226 Seconds of Bliss: Get Lost in the New, Extended Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Trailer

We've gone back and forth on the marketing for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, from parsing its initial, pseudo-bootlegged trailer to trawling its mysterious Tumblr to breaking down both NSFW and maybe too-SFW images to spending eight early minutes with David Fincher's adaptation of the international bestseller. In a nutshell, it looks good! And today's new, extended trailer looks even better.

No one wants to be in the tank for a movie based solely on glorified commercials, but come on. These are great commercials! The story takes real shape (especially for newbies with no prior experience with the book or the original Swedish adaptation), the characters' edges sharpen, and Fincher's arresting images beg to be expanded and explained. It's just sinister and cold and sexy and affecting from top to bottom -- just the kind of remedy you want to mainline after spending time with, say, the J. Edgar trailer. (If you really feel like indulging, check out the high-definition version at Apple.)

VERDICT: Yes, yes, a million times yes.

I'm as excited as anyone for this but hearing Mara's accented english sounds kinda weird.

  • anon says:

Makes me want to run right out and get the already fantastic original movie that doesn't have the "look at me! look at me!" soundtrack. The soundtrack to Social Network almost derailed the movie, so it sounds like this is Fincher's suicide run.

  • The Pope says:

    Actually AS,
I think it is Daniel Craig who is the only one not even attempting an accent. THAT is kinda weird.

  • The Pope says:

    Anon,
Yup you're completely right. Trent Reznor completely derailed the film. So much so that he won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for a film that was so derailed it barely grossed in $220m worldwide. Had they gone for say, John Williams, they could have topped $500m easy.

  • Strawberry Pain says:

There's a Craig! and a Wright! and a Rooney! and a Plummer! and a Reznor! and a Richardson/Redgrave! and a Visnjic! and a Sands! and a Skaaaarsgaaaard! And I have chills!
    ...
Ahem. I'm going to get pierced and solemn and look bored and **not** squeal and fidget while I wait for this.

  • Right? _Open, already, dammit._

  • Fitz says:

The original film is bad. Nyqvist could be used to store IKEA furniture and everything else is either un-edited to the point of boredom, or unimportant.

  • Elias says:

Personally I am SUPER excited for this movie. I really enjoyed the books, and loved the original film trilogy, but Fincher’s one of my favorite film makers (Fight Club, anyone? Se7en?) I can’t wait to see his take on this…and from what I’ve seen so far it’s going to be a great one.
