Talkback: Which Emmy Nominee Deserves a Bigger Movie Career?
I can't conceive of a Movieline reader who doesn't care about award shows, so I suspect I'm in a safe space when I say I can't wait for tonight's Emmys. Out of every primetime ceremony (including the Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, VMAs, and the little-seen CMT Drunken Hayseed Awards), the Emmys pick the right winners most often. Yes, Modern Family deserved to beat Glee. Yes, Bryan Cranston deserved three straight wins. But there's one area in which Emmy nominees deserve more justice: in the jump from the small to the silver screen. If you could pick one Emmy nominee who deserves a bigger movie career, who would it be?
My choice: Julie Bowen. The Happy Gilmore vet is a hilarious, multifaceted, whip-smart, sincere, and somehow underrated presence on Modern Family. She delivers the hard-and-fast one-liners, takes time to play the straight man, and is just damn believable. I'm personally obsessed with her, and if we can book her for better projects than Jumping the Broom, I'd really appreciate it. She truly deserves the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy statuette (and if she ties with the equally fabulous Jane Krakowski, I'll start gyrating at the TV like an anal-stage toddler -- you keep on selling that pungent Jenna Maroney jungle juice, Jane). I am in a Beatlemaniac-like tizzy thinking of how cool she is, and how important a comic actress of her caliber remains in a pop culture that's currently obsessed with vulgar, snarky, predictable comediennes.

I have not really had much exposure to Julianna Margulies, but judging from her hilarious performance in "City Island," she has my vote.
I would go with Micheal C Hall. Great actor that ought to be in more or better movies than Gamer. He would be an awesome Lex Luthor in a new Superman movie!
Okay well first off, the Emmy's almost never get it right. Let's take a look at this year for instance. The best made for TV movie was far and away The Sunset Limited with Samuel L. Jackson & Tommy Lee Jones. Forget about winning the Emmy, it wasn't even nominated, for anything! And the egregious white wash "Too Big to Fail" was. Disgusting! Game of Thrones was barely nominated for anything and Boardwalk Empire lost to Mad Men & Friday Night Lights. Also, Real Time With Bill Maher has been nominated 13 times and never won, despite being the most intelligent and witty comedy/variety show on the air. Now, when it comes to past shows, who could forget when the final season of The Sopranos lost almost every major award to Boston Legal, which was NOT a drama series!
Oh and I forgot, after being on the air for 11 years, Curb Your Enthusiasm has failed to win an Emmy for Best Comedy Series, Actor in a Comedy Series or any of the writing categories. Same applies to Californication.
Connie Britton and her sunny face should be in everything. Julianna Margulies robbed her, and i'll forever hold that against her.
Methinks that Steve Carell guy could make a go of it, if he only gave it a try.
Curb Your Enthusiasm's current season wouldn't have fallen within this year's Emmy's date range, and I doubt their last one did either. Save your indignation for next year.
I still am mad at Carol Vessey for breaking Ed's heart....
Can we do this in reverse and take Jennifer Aniston, Katie Holmes and Sarah Jessica Parker and cram them back onto the small screen?
I wasn't taking about this year, I was taking about the fact that Curb has been on the air for 11 years and it has yet to be recognized by the Emmy's.
Many of the Emmy nominees would, I suspect, prefer to keep working with the superior material TV is offering nowadays.
Technically, she is part of a nominated show rather than a nominee herself, but how about Emilia Clarke from Game fo Thrones? She easily deserved a nomination for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series more than some of the others on that list (cough cough Michelle Forbes)
