Top Gun Flying Your Way in 3-D, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today

Happy Monday! Also in today's edition of The Broadsheet: Bobcat Goldthwait explains his pop-culture revenge fantasy ... Amitabh Bachchan is the only one not getting rich off Baz Luhrmann's Great Gatsby ... A Hollywood terror may soon be back on the street ... and more.

· The 25th anniversary of Top Gun will run a little long, apparently: A company called Legend 3-D is in the early stages of converting Tony Scott's 1986 blockbuster to 3-D for theatrical distribution sometime in 2012. Four minutes -- including the "Danger Zone" sequence -- have already been converted and previewed at a convention in Amsterdam; all Legend needs is Scott's approval to handle the rest. Good luck? · "I don't really care about the Kardashians. I have no personal ax to grind. It's people who talk about them I would like to shoot in the face." Take a bow, Bobcat Goldthwait! His violent satire God Bless America debuted to acclaim over the weekend in Toronto. [LAT]

· Baz Luhrmann may be spending $127 million to make a new adaptation of The Great Gatsby but Amitabh Bachchan isn't making a dime. The Bollywood icon, whom Lurhmann roped in to play "shadowy gangster" Meyer Wolfsheim, wrote Sunday on his blog, "[Luhrmann] called last month and wondered if I would do this small role in his film and I agreed. It is a gesture. I have refused any remuneration on this too." [Big B via The Guardian ]

· The 84-year-old driver who last week struck a jogging Reese Witherspoon will not face charges over the incident, but she will be required to retake her driving test. Buckle up, L.A. [THR]

· Here is a terrific, illuminating and inspiring feature about Barry Duncan, the Einstein of palindrome writing. [The Believer via Andrew Sullivan]

· Speaking of Top Gun, this is probably the most amazing story you'll read on the anniversary of 9/11: "Lt. Heather 'Lucky' Penney was on a runway at Andrews Air Force Base and ready to fly. She had her hand on the throttle of an F-16 and she had her orders: Bring down United Airlines Flight 93. [...] The one thing she didn't have as she roared into the crystalline sky was live ammunition. Or missiles. Or anything at all to throw at a hostile aircraft. Except her own plane. So that was the plan." Salute accordingly. [WP]
