Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 this week became only the third film to surpass the $200 million mark domestically within five days of release. Not bad! Alas, it left the five-day record to a celebrated studiomate -- but not by much.
Despite a superb Tuesday haul of $15.4 million, Potter fell short of The Dark Knight's five-day record by a barely more than $1 million -- $203.8 million to $202.6 million. Of course, Potter had a 3-D advantage that Christopher Nolan's 2008 blockbuster did not, but hey. Next stop: Week two, when Potter attempts to stave off Captain America for consecutive No. 1's. Drop back by here Thursday afternoon for Movieline's Weekend Forecast, followed by this weekend's box-office returns as they're available.
