Transformers: Dark of the Moon Wasn't Completely Shot in 3-D, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today

Also in this Tuesday edition of The Broadsheet: Dennis Quaid is Expecting... Helen Mirren runs into the Wall of Sound... the strange story of Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky... and more ahead.

· You know how everyone associated with Transformers: Dark of the Moon made a big deal about how the film wasn't another crappy post-conversion 3-D knockoff? About that. "Sometimes the image is broken and you've got to fix it -- and sometimes it's not fixable, so you have to have conversion companies," director Michael Bay told Variety. "It's a must. You can't keep it all native." To that end, somewhere between 47 and 52 percent of Dark of the Moon was converted, something that stereographer Corey Turner seemed fine with. "You need both (native and conversion) in the absolute best of scenarios. Let's just say you're able to get the most precise, accurate 3D in the world, but your camera doesn't fit in the location you want to shoot. Let's say it's a small space. What are you going to do? You can try to redefine your rig, you spend a lot of money doing that for a couple of quick shots. Or you can choose to shoot those shots and convert them later." Huh. Anyway, it's an interesting story -- one that starts out seeming scandalous and ends up seeming obvious. Click through to check it out. [Variety]

· Dennis Quaid has joined the comically large cast of What to Expect When You're Expecting as the older husband of Brooklyn Decker's character, who is expecting twins. This movie could be fun, or it could end with a ridiculous birth montage set to "Under Pressure." [Variety]

· Trading up! Helen Mirren has replaced Bette Midler in the cast of the HBO film Phil Spector after Midler had to drop out because of a back issue. Al Pacino stars as Spector in the David Mamet-written and -directed telefilm. [Deadline]

· Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K. Last week, the gossip rags got ahold of news ("news") that Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky was working in a shoe store in her hometown of Great Neck, NY. Blonsky took to Twitter to shoot down the rumors by saying she was just "experimenting for a day," but now the owner of the shoe store says she was a summer employee. "She was scheduled to work two to three times a week, until this media frenzy took over," said store owner Steven Dann. "I wish Nikki a ton of luck for whatever comes next for her." Bizarre. Blonsky was last seen in the critically acclaimed but shortly lived series Huge. [E!]

· Crispin Glover and Tom Arnold will play brothers in the Elmore Leonard adaptation Freaky Deaky. Billy Burke, Christian Slater and Michael Jai White are other names in the totally random cast. [Variety]
