Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, On Mars: First Trailer for John Carter Arrives

If you were disappointed with the meaningless first poster for John Carter (née of Mars), the Andrew Stanton-directed adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs's book series about a Civil War soldier who gets mysteriously transported to Mars, some great news: the trailer for JC has come online, and it's gorgeous, haunting, awesome, and totally obtuse. Also, awesome! Take it away, Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch and Peter Gabriel's cover of Arcade Fire's "My Body is a Cage"!

Best cover song in a trailer since the Scala and Kolacny Brothers version of "Creep" was used in The Social Network? Definitely! Not much else to take away from this teaser, other than that Kitsch has great biceps, Mars looks like Back to the Future Part III, and Stanton's first foray into live-action filmmaking might not be a mistake after all. Bonus points for the closing Willem Dafoe voice over.

John Carter transports to theaters on March 9, 2012. Head over to Apple to watch in HD (highly recommended).

VERDICT: Get your ass to Mars.

Taylor Kitsch's nipples have a co-staring role in this trailer. And i'm ok with that.

    Same here.

It looks awesome - I'm so anxious for this now.

There is nothing new in well done trailer of a movie that hugely disappoints when it comes out. So don't spread your legs for now, there is no need for that kind of behavior.

They kept the prologue and they kept (it seems) the Civil War setting.
I expected Mars to be a bit more red and a bit less Arizona looking and I would have liked more of the aliens shown to distance this from being Prince of Persia 2 but I am now cautiously optimistic.
It still makes no sense to call it John Carter and have JCM everywhere though.

so they have English accents on Mars apparently... Is Mars a British colony? Nice trailer, though it doesn't make me want to run out and queue up for the film.
