Selena Gomez Has Shia Fever, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today

Also in this Thursday edition of The Broadsheet: Bryan Cranston keeps getting offers... two huge awards contenders get official 2011 release timeframes... Chris Hemsworth is the Shadow Runner... and more ahead.

· When movie marketing collides! Earlier this week, Monte Carlo star Selena Gomez pretty much hyperventilated when she met Transformers: Dark of the Moon lead human Shia LaBeouf backstage at Live! With Regis and Kelly (video below). Her adoration may surprise you since she's dating that Justin Bieber fellow and all -- the caption on the video reads "The best day ever!!" -- but apparently Gomez has had a crush on LaBeouf for years, dating back to her Disney Channel days. "You'd think that as much as I promote it [he'd make an appearance on Wizards of Waverly Place]," she said to People in 2008. "I'm like, begging, but it's not happening. I know I'm a nerd! Please, Shia, come on my show!" Watch the celebrity-on-celebrity fandom below. [THR/The Live Feed]

· There's that news van again. Bryan Cranston continues to give Jeremy Renner a run for his money in the ubiquitous casting department. Just one day after being announced as a lead in the Ben Affleck-directed Argo, Cranston was revealed to be in negotiations for a role in Gangster Squad. If signed, the Breaking Bad Emmy winner would play "a laconic LAPD officer from Texas" opposite the already hired Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Anthony Mackie. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) will direct that amazing cast. [Variety]

· It looks like the Clint Eastwood-directed J. Edgar and the Stephen Daldry-helmed Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close will officially be major players in the 2011 Oscar Race. Warner Bros. revealed on Wednesday that both would come out this year, in October and December respectively. Stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer and Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock might want to start looking at formal wear. [Deadline]

· Sony has acquired a pitch by screenwriter Hossein Amini (Snow White and The Huntsman) called Shadow Runner, about an elite special forces team. Huntsman star Chris Hemsworth is currently attached. [Deadline]

· Speaking of Sony, the studio will release Singularity, the next Roland Emmerich blockbuster, on May 13, 2013. Emmerich has the change-of-pace Shakespeare conspiracy film Anonymous out this fall. [Deadline]

· Justin Timberlake now owns a part of MySpace! Following the NewsCorp sale of the fledgling social media outlet to Specific Media, Timberlake will "play a major role in developing the creative direction and strategy for the company moving forward." Who does he think he is, Sean Parker? [Deadline]
