Poster Premiere: Rachel Weisz Gets to Bottom of Things in The Whistleblower

It's been a while since we saw Rachel Weisz onscreen, what with the endless hold-ups on Dream House (co-starring her new husband Daniel Craig), her commitment to a Terrence Malick film that's in the can but will probably not be edited before, oh, 2018 or so, the limited release of Agora and the unwatchability of The Lovely Bones. Finally, though, Weisz's acclaimed 2010 Toronto Film Festival entry The Whistleblower is en route to theaters this summer. To commemorate the momentous occasion, Movieline has your first look at the film's poster.

Weisz stars as a Nebraska police investigator whose work as a U.N. International Police Force monitor resulted in her discovery and subsequent exposure of a sizable sex-trafficking operation in Bosnia. A cover-up ensues, springing the investigator into an international intrigue of corruption that cost her her job. Variety called first-time director Larysa Kondracki's film (which is inspired by actual events) a "harrowingly effective thriller," adding: "Weisz's performance holds the viewer every step of the way. Her Kathy could be a spiritual sister to the anti-Big Pharma crusader Weisz played in The Constant Gardener; it's a conventional but gripping star turn, fueled by a righteous combo of human decency and fearless initiative." Vanessa Redgrave, Monica Belluci and David Strathairn co-star.

Meanwhile the trailer's here, and you can expect more coverage of The Whistleblower at Movieline closer to the movie's Aug. 5 release date.
