Star Trek 2 still doesn't have an official director -- J.J. Abrams has yet to confirm his involvement, though it is widely assumed he'll be back -- but that doesn't mean there isn't time to speculate about whether William Shatner will make an appearance. You'll recall that Abrams had planned to include a Shatner-as-Captain Kirk cameo in Star Trek, but that didn't work out. ("We tried desperately to put him in the movie, but he was making it very clear that he wanted the movie to focus on him significantly, which, frankly, he deserves," said Abrams.) Will things be different for the sequel?
Nope. Not, at least, according to new quotes attributed to Shatner. Speaking at the 2011 Calgary Comic Expo, The Shat poured cold water on his Star Trek 2 return.
"I have become an acquaintance of J.J. [Abrams] as of late, but I'm afraid no -- no, I will not be in Star Trek 2, I'm afraid."
Considering Star Trek 2 isn't really close to going before cameras, that could likely change, but for now: be [inappropriately long pause] disappointed!
