Every film from The Goonies to Newsies to Carrie is being adapted into a musical these days, so it's not terribly surprising that another feature film is getting ready for its Broadway close-up. This time the movie is Big Fish, Tim Burton's 2003 adaptation of Daniel Wallace's novel.
The announcement came via Big Fish screenwriter John August's blog today. He and director/choreographer Susan Stroman are aiming for a premiere in Spring 2012. Tony-nominated composer Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family) has already written the music and lyrics. Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen will be producing.
This isn't one of those announcements where some people had lunch and said, "Hey, maybe let's try to do a show." It's written. Two acts. Amazing songs. We've read it and sung it forty times for lots of different people.
