Help Colin Hanks Tell the Sad Tale of Tower Records

colinhanks225.jpgTower Records: It's not just where you saw Suzanne Vega perform an acoustic set to a polite crowd packed between CD racks in 1994. It's a company whose downfall signaled not only a change in the music business but the end of an era. Colin Hanks (yes, the Orange County veteran, Tom Hanks scion, and Movieline pal) is hoping to tell the Tower Records story in a documentary called All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records, except he needs assistance from the movie-loving masses. Video and details follow.

Hanks says the story hits close to home since Tower Records boss Russ Solomon started the chain in his hometown of Sacramento. Rather than ask his famous father for a loan, Hanks has launched a Kickstarter page to help pay for the documentary. So far, he's scored 19% of his $50,000 goal. Help Mad Men's repressed Father Gil out! Remember when he sang that Peter, Paul, and Mary song for your listening pleasure? Throw him $10 to aid him on his musical journey.

A friend of mine used to sit outside selling his rock and roll photos at that Tower on Watt Avenue-- glossy 8x10's of the hottest bands of the day!

He should ask his rapper bro Chet Haze for a donation.

I used to go there all the time growing up! My best friend worked at Watt Avenue, and I worked at Tower Books on Macy Plaza.
This is such a nostalgia trip, I can't even tell you.

HOW DID I FORGET CHET HAZE.

This assumes that the "movie-loving masses" would want to see such a film. I hope he gets enough from the movie-loving "few-and-far-between".
