I'm sorry, did I just read "Best Actress: Kirsten Dunst"? So the Rapture did happen and Tilda Swinton got the call?

  • S.T. VanAirsdale says:

I'm going to step in right now and restrict the plucking of such low-hanging fruit as "WTF? Kirsten Dunst?" to people who have actually seen Melancholia. And if you wanna bring up Tilda Swinton, then you need to have seen We Need to Talk About Kevin as well. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Tommy Marx says:

    Standing ovation for S.T.

  • epochd says:

i know the palme is the overall "best picture" butwhat exactly is the difference between the grand prix and prix du jury.

  • Eren Odabasi says:

Grand Prix was actually shared between the Dardenne Brothers and Nuri Bilge Ceylan for Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. Can you update the list please? Thanks.

  • luthi says:

i watched the live ceremony and the grand prix was given to two movies this year, The Kid with a Bike by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne AND Once Upon a Time in Anatolia by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, as you can see from Cannes' official twitter page here:

I've been waiting for kirsten dunst to get back on top of the acting game, I've always thought she was one of the best in hollywood. Now she can have the career I thought she was going to have before she did those spiderman films.

  • Thanks. That was a regrettable omission in a flurry of live updates; it is corrected now.

  • S.T. VanAirsdale says:

From my understanding, basically the Grand Prix recognizes the competition film (or, as in this year, films) that presents its subject with the most originality.
The Jury Prize is essentially equivalent to a Special Jury Prize at any other festival, recognizing one film for a particularly influential or important element, theme or achievement.

ha-ha, I thought DES was pretty funny.

  • 2+2=5 says:

I guess you didn't hear, but no one in US gives a damn about European awards. She is still a dead horse in Hollywood.

  • j'accuse! says:

    S. T. O.

  • landonamelia says:

Weak competition. Had to give it to someone.

  • harold m says:

Why do so many people have bad things to say about such a beautiful young lady --- Kirsten Dunst --- who has done absolutely nothing to them. Kirsten works hard and is paid a lot of money for what she does. I guess you haters would have turned down a lead role in Spiderman? Stop your hating!
