First Look at Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises

That didn't take long. With filming on The Dark Knight Rises officially underway, Warner Bros. has started the hype machine early in anticipation of the July 20, 2012 release. A new website went online late Thursday (www.thedarkknightrises.com), and while it initially seemed like nothing more than a black page with some bizarre chanting on loop, a closer investigation has revealed a bit of viral marketing tied to -- what else? -- Twitter, and a subsequent first look at Tom Hardy as Bane in the new film.

An enterprising Batman fan over at Superhero Hype -- or perhaps just some member of the Warner Bros. marketing team -- realized that the audio file on the site contained a Twitter hashtag (#thefirerises) that, when tweeted, would slowly begin to reveal a hidden teaser image embedded on the site.

Naturally, the image itself has already leaked -- and you can check it out below. Hardy-as-Bane looks awfully menacing, no?

  • The Winchester says:

Do they really need to be virally marketing this movie? Interest for this flick is so high they could just release a trailer and poster that's all black and merely says "New Batman Movie - July 20th", and it would still make a small country's GNP in 3 days.

  • Silver says:

The cast still feels incomplete and like it's missing key characters.
I hope the climactic fight between Christian Bale and Tom Hardy will knock everyone on their ass and be so amazing and action-packed, audiences all over the world will be left breathless.

Although I have complete faith in this project, I don't know how I feel about the muzzled look of his mask.

  • j'accuse! says:

True story, that. Btw, I always misread the title as The Dark Knight Also Rises, and scratch my head for a second wondering if this is some kind of odd Hemingway reference.

  • buzz says:

    I'll take two.

  • NOLAN HATER says:

Lesson for today: real psychos shave their heads but don't shave their armpits.
    oh yeah, and Nolan sucks.

I enjoyed reading your cut-and-paste comments over at FirstShowing as well.
    Cheers!

  • Ray Rizzo says:

If the new batman movie just started filming, how come people are posting movie trailers on the net already.

  • MahoHaku says:

That does not look like bane I must point out he needs to be "BANE" not bane... the slightly buffer than Batman dude. Does anyone remember that Bane broke batman's back? Anyway if Bane is a villain in the movie he needs to be a major villain. The Spiderman movies had the same conflict. Too many villains, not enough time so every villain seemed half assed and less than half in character.

  • Tom Hardy pulled it off so well, no wonder he worked so hard it to get that look and body...and I loved the character BANE! STRONG & SCARY! OMG especially the mask and tom hardy bane coat..
