The Weinstein Company Plans Seven Samurai Remake

sevensam-120.jpgIn case The Magnificent Seven and Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" don't contain enough Akira Kurosawa references for you, here comes another remake of the legendary Japanese filmmaker's classic film The Seven Samurai. British director Scott Mann is set to helm the $60 million project developed by scribe John Fusco (The Forbidden Kingdom, Young Guns) for The Weinstein Company. I'm excited! But why not just make the Movieline approved Red Steel adaptation instead? [Variety]

Well, forget the fact that hearing "The Weinstein Company" at the beginning of ANY sentence gives me the heavey-jeevies, at least this is a redo I can kind of get behind. I weirdly just finished the original today and as long as they remake it with a twist, like Magnificent Seven did, then fine. If it's an actual Samurai movie, then they need to go to the same hell as Gus Van Sant and his wretched Psycho remake are destined.
