Frightening news: Ryan Phillippe, who I sincerely enjoyed in Gosford Park and ironically adored in Cruel Intentions, 54, I Know What You Did Last Summer, may be quitting acting. I'm not making this up. I Know What He's Threatening This Spring. And it's terrifying.
According to PopEater, Phillippe is less than optimistic about remaining an actor.
Phillippe, who is busying touting his flick, 'The Bang Bang Club,' told Page Six that due to his wallflower personality he could no longer handle the pressure of the paparazzi world of fame.
"I think I'm going to end my acting career," he told Page Six. "I'm so introverted. I'm ready to be behind the scenes. I'm 36, but I've been doing this for 20 years."
But now, according to Gossip Cop, Phillippe's rep is saying that his comments were taken out of context and that he is not planning on retiring from acting. Instead, he's interested in pursuing producing and directing opportunities.
Ugh, what! "Pursuing producing and directing opportunities" is a chilling sign. I want more of his brooding characters and their lemony ringlets! His smug jaw-clenching! His all! We need at least one male alum from I Know What You Did Last Summer to thrive onscreen until the mid-21st century, and I hoped it'd be him. God. Freddie Prinze Jr., expect my text promptly.
