Is releasing red band trailers before actual trailers a new Hollywood thing? Just one day after Universal unveiled a scatological look at The Change-Up, here comes an R-rated peek at Sony's 30 Minutes or Less, the follow-up action-comedy from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer that stars Jesse Eisenberg as a pizza boy. Click ahead to see if this one -- wait for it -- delivers.
Har, amirite!? Anyway, the plot: Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari play Nick and Chet, best friends in the midst of a crisis. See, Nick harbors some sexual feelings for schoolteacher Chet's twin-sister -- which is gross, as Ansari profanely explains. All of that is initially forgotten, however, when Nick shows up at Chet's school with a bomb strapped to his chest. It turns out a couple of idiot criminals (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson) want to use Nick in a bank robbing scheme, and he's got nowhere else to turn.
Pretty basic, right? Though what seems to separate 30 Minutes or Less from other entries in the bank-robbing-pizza-guy genre is that everyone is sorta grounded in reality. Eisenberg and Ansari are perfectly flustered; McBride and Swardson are perfectly stupid-but-menacing. That this trailer also features a totally awesome flamethrower shot should be enough to place it on your most-anticipated list for the summer.
VERDICT: With anchovies!
