Relativity Buys Jennifer Lawrence Thriller House at the End of the Street

jenniferlawrence300.jpgJennifer Lawrence fans, rejoice! Your next year or two is gonna be chock-full of J. Lawr, especially now that Relativity has picked up the House at the End of the Street. The Oscar-nominated Lawrence already has The Beaver, the Sundance hit Like Crazy, and X-Men: First Class set with studio releases and will soon begin filming The Hunger Games for a 2012 debut. Will House turn out to be, as producer Aaron Ryder once said, a sort of Psycho for younger viewers?

House, filmed last year, follows a teen (Lawrence) who moves into a new 'hood with mom Elisabeth Shue and befriends the survivor of a multiple murder (played by the beautiful Max Thierot). The only issue -- okay, one of a few problems for our young heroine in this scenario, traumatized love interest aside -- is that the little girl responsible for the massacre is still missing. Hey, if Lawrence can survive murderous meth-head mountainfolk and "inspire a rebellion," surely she can survive anything!

But back to that Hitchcock reference. "We believe this will be to Psycho what Disturbia was to Rear Window," producer Ryder said back in early 2010 when the project was announced, "but with the addition of a strong female lead." Well, they got that strong female lead, alright. The question is, what exactly did Disturbia add to the legacy of that Hitchcock classic?
