Even Mickey Rourke Knows Passion Play Is 'Terrible'

mickey-rourke-225.jpgAs anyone who followed awards season back in 2009 knows, Mickey Rourke is nothing if not outspoken. And honest. Brutally honest. Just take his comments at the premiere of Scream 4 on Tuesday night, when Rourke was asked about the upcoming -- and soon going -- new film Passion Play.

Said the Oscar winner nominee to Vulture:

What about your movie with Megan Fox and Bill Murray?

Terrible. Another terrible movie. But, you know, in your career and all the movies you make, you're going to make dozens of terrible ones.

You called Megan Fox, like, one of the best actresses of all time.

That I worked with [smirk].

That movie's getting limited release.

That's because it's not very good.

Perhaps Image Entertainment can stick that on the DVD box. To be fair, Rourke also used the interview as an opportunity to assail his other unreleased film, 13, which co-stars 50 Cent: "[I]t's so bad it can't get out." Mickey Rourke, everyone!

Very honest, and he probably won't take any flack for saying this, at least not from the public. Can you imagine the white hot fury of the trolls if Megan Fox had uttered these words? She was essentially called the Antichrist for daring to point out that Transformers is about shit blowing up, not acting. Gotta love sexism.

So right! and ps I SAW Passion Play at the TIFF premiere + LOVED IT! so did the audience. I am so confused why after the press screening the following day every blog is slagging it. It's not a movie for everyone (especially hater/bloggers...) - just like how younger audiences loved The Black Swan + older (40's+) thought it was a goofy horror movie - the opposite will be true here - it wears it's heart on it's sleeve and is about death and redemption and second chances - you gotta be over 40 for that stuff to resonate. This is really stupid from Mickey cuz for once he's a leading man again - not an action star + yes, even the Wrestler was an action film at it's heart... and poor Megan! She is wonderful in this role as Lily the circus freak. Why won't people give her a break? What evil cynical times these are....

Passion was great movie...perhaps it isn't "not for everyone", but it was perfect for my wife and me, and we are in our 70's!
True entertainment! The actor's took lot's of risk, but hey...no pain, no gain. As far as we are concerned everyone landed on their feet and should be proud of this work....call it an "art film".
