Weekend Receipts: Hop's On Top Again, Your Highness Has A Schwaggy Sixth Place Debut

The Bunny reigned supreme again as Hop grabbed the top spot for a second weekend, but at the expense of Russell Brand's other comedy, Arthur, which could only muster a distant second place finish. In fact, when final number come rolling in tomorrow, it may be beaten out by Hanna, which notched a very close third place, followed by inspirational stump film Soul Surfer. And poor Your Highness came in at 6th, proving perhaps that a little Danny McBride goes a long way. Your weekend receipts are here.

1. Hop

Gross: $21,696,000 ($68,152,000)

Screens: 3,616 (PSA: $6,000)

Weeks: 2 (change: -42.2%)

You have to admire the sheer mercenary inspiration of whoever realized that there's no Easter Bunny movie and that they could make an annual mint off of merchandising their cute little bunny to kids every year. I mean, it's a cruddy movie, but I still tip my hat to you, money-hungry Universal.

2. Arthur

Gross: $12,605,000 (new)

Screens: 3,276 (PSA: $3,848)

Weeks: 1

Initially, I was a bit worried about this remake, if only because from the previews it looks like they might've removed Arthur's alcoholism, which is rather the point of Arthur, right? Thankfully, his alcoholism is intact, but as for everything else...

3. Hanna

Gross: $12,323,000 (new)

Screens: 2,535 (PSA: $4,861)

Weeks: 1

I think it's great that the director of Pride & Prejudice made an action movie, and I think more period piece arthouse directors should do the same. Can you imagine how awesome Merchant Ivory's Rambo might've been back in the 80s? Or maybe how terrible? Or probably both?

4. Soul Surfer

Gross: $11,100,000 (new)

Screens:2,214 (PSA: $5,014)

Weeks: 1

This week's answer to Where Is Helen Hunt Exactly? is: she's in this movie. Good luck for next week! Special hint: she may or may not be at the Malibu Trader Joe's stocking up on quinoa and cruelty-free butter.

5. Insidious

Gross: $9,740,000 ($27,097,000)

Screens: 2,419 (PSA: $4,026)

Weeks: 2 (change: -26.6%)

A very slim decline for this haunted house flick, which is notable since horror movies often drop precipitously after opening weekend. And with a whisper-thin budget rumored at only $1.8 million, it's all gravy for the producers.

6. Your Highness

Gross: $9,520,000 (new)

Screens:2,769 (PSA: $3,438)

Weeks: 1

Here's the thing: after the first five or ten minutes or so, the fun of hearing modern cussing delivered in faux Elizabethan accent wears off. That said, whoever came up with the phrase "the f*ckening" is genius.
