VIDEO: Before Avid, There Was Edgar Wright's VHS Gun Fetish Montage

Sure, these days anyone with Final Cut and some free time can create a montage honoring everything from Pixar's legacy to profanity in Boston movies. But, here's a reminder of the lengths geeks had to go before computer editing software, courtesy of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World director Edgar Wright. In 1993, Wright apparently holed up for several long weekends in a VHS editing suite to create this mash up of movie-clips featuring people with guns.

Take it away, Edgar!

Now a couple of things. Before any of you comment "Where's --- or ----", bear in mind that the 19 year old me had a limited supply of tapes at the time. Most of these are one I copied off the telly.

I haven't, as is customary, included a list of the clips, as I thought you guys could guess them all. First one to guess them all in order, including close ups, I will send a little prize.

Apologies to any rights holders, I was young I didn't know what I was doing. Please don't arrest me.

The filmmaker also acknowledges the irony of setting a montage honoring glamorous firearms to a Beatles song blasting the N.R.A. Somehow, I still think the mash-up would have bummed John Lennon out a little. If nothing else though, this video shows what a great eye Wright had for rhythm and timing even at 19. He also apparently had infinite patience.
