As announced on Monday, the Tribeca Film Festival will debut a work-in-progress cut of the new documentary Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon. Because of course Kings of Leon needs a documentary. Light your sex on fire and watch the NSFW first trailer for Sky ahead.
From the faux-intimate home videos (kid nudity!) to the disapproving religious parents to the booze, smokes, and fights, Talihina Sky seems like a full-length version of Behind the Music. Which sorta seems expected; after all, what did you think a documentary about the Followill brothers (Caleb, Jared and Nathan) would look like besides a more earnest version of Almost Famous?
The obviousness of this all aside, kudos for the trailer not including "Sex on Fire" or "Use Somebody," and instead focusing on the band before they became ubiquitous Top-40 staples -- a position they truly seem ill-suited to hold. These guys are Southern rockers, not the filler between Rihanna and Bruno Mars. Put it this way: Judging from Talihina Sky, is it any wonder that Kings of Leon spit in the face of Glee?
VERDICT: Get on my back for a piggyback ride.
