Hip-Hop Fan Abbie Cornish Hoping to Record Album

abbiecornishsp300.jpgAbbie Cornish didn't get to sing in the theatrical cut of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, but may soon be sharing her musical talents with the world. The Australian actress, who covers the May issue of Esquire UK, told the British mag that she'd like to record an album when her schedule opens up. "I would love to play here in Los Angeles... and record an album," she said. But Cornish won't be just any actress releasing a vanity album; the self-admitted hip-hop fan, who has been DJing since her teen years, has been performing with a crew for years. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the lady rapper known as Dusk!

Cornish, who's performed with the Australian rap crew Blades under the AKA Dusk, can be seen commanding the mic in the below video from 2007. "I got into DJing and making beats when I was about 17," she told Esquire. "I was always fascinated by the four elements of hip-hop; writing, rhyming, breakdancing and graffiti. I'm in a crew now. I love it. It's a huge part of my life."

"I'm always writing lyrics," she said. "I have so many lyrics written on so many stray pieces of paper. Everywhere. I just write about... whatever's on my mind. Whatever's going on." Which begs the question: Why didn't Snyder enlist Cornish to lay down a blazing original track for the soundtrack of Sucker Punch?

Thank you, Abbie, for sharing with us your lousy taste in music and art. I am sure your Australian hip hop career will go far. (sarc)

She is classier than you most of the time and she is versatile while you aren't.

  • Dany says:

I can understand Bradco judging Abbie Cornish. Her taste is indeed horrible. The video is terribly embarrassing. It is impossible to take her serious outside of a couple acting roles, where she was quite good. But like many actors, she seems like an empty vessel.
What I can't understand is an anonymous commenter judging another person they have never met, seen or read about. Jackass Anonymous, you have no idea who Bradco is or what you are talking about so your words are meaningless. Your attack is nothing but a hope -- a prayer that Bradco is on your pathetic level, where you are worshiping mid-level actresses who are clearly immature and deeming them worthy.
How do I judge you, Anonymous? Easy. I judge your judgement. Your poison tells me all I need to know.

F*** Bradco and Dany. Do you're thing Abbie. haters are idiots who just talk the talk about things do know nothing about, then think they know everything but in reality they don't know jack s***. Best of luck in you're hip hop career.

The cast of Sucker Punch did record a version of "Ooh... Child" that was cut from the film at the last second after test screenings. It may end up on the director's cut DVD. Of course there will be mixed receptions, but I think it's very unique for a classical actress to have a hip-hop interest and background.
