VIDEO: Find Out If You Were Right to Ignore Sucker Punch By Watching the First 6 Minutes

Since so many folks opted to stay home and wash their hair in lieu of buying a ticket to Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, here's a chance to see what you missed: The first six minutes of the film (well, the opening sequence plus a sizzle reel) are online! In it, the life-changing "Janie's Got a Gun"-inspired events that bring Babydoll (Emily Browning) to the film's mental institution for wayward girls are revealed in -- what else? -- slow motion! Death, child abuse, face-scratching, sisterly love, tragedy, a sultry cover version of "Sweet Dreams" sung by Browning... it's all here, after the jump.

    Stupid and boring!!

It works for me, but I am open to music video style films. Haven't seen the full feature, yet. Will it spin off into madness? I hope so. Will I hate it? Maybe. But I will enjoy it either way more than some straight forward audience pleasing shiny happy people.

Ugh! I like the narrator's voice, that's all. That's Abbie Cornish isn't it?

  • CiscoMan says:

That's a pretty decent -- and interesting, at the very least -- opening for me. Say what you will about Snyder's slow motion, but I'll take that over clunky, expositional dialogue any day.
That said, I'm still waiting for video.

  • Jen Yamato says:

    Yup, it's Cornish.

  • kudos says:

    Saved me 10$. Looks corny

Actually it was a great movie. I think that a person would have to know a little about Social history to get the overall effectof the movie. For instance, back in the early days of psychology, it was easy to have some one incarcerated for personal gain. And that is what initially happens to the heroine of the Movie.

  • Skullet says:

Specf#ckingtacular!! Saw it, loved it, it'll blow your corneas out!!!! The DVD release will be a hard R version which I think will really push it over the edge!! Can't wait!

  • Edward says:

Movie was WAY better than I expected based on all the negative bs. Ended up really liking and respecting what Snyder did. Actually looking forward to his Superman reboot now.

Couldn't stand the horrible music, but the imagery is just like panels from a comic book. And I never tire of the speed ramping technique; it just looks so good.
On an unrelated note, can you do something about this site's 'a248.e.akamai.net' certificate (linked to Facebook) which doesn't seem to match its credentials. Cheers.

  • Brian says:

The first part of the movie was the best part. After that it becomes very silly. Sucker Punch is the worst movie I've seen this year, and the first to really piss me off. I hope it sweeps the Razzies.

  • Cameron Williams says:

Film is a visual story-telling medium. If you require a voice-over or heavy-handed use of musical lyrics to explain what's happening on-screen, then you're already in trouble.
Like Ridley Scott, great with the style, but struggles with the substance.

  • James says:

Ugh. I made it two minutes in before I gave up. Whoever said this was a MOULIN ROUGE ripoff nailed it.
And sheesh, but Snyder loves him some slo-mo. I swear WATCHMEN would have been about 70 mins long without the slo-mo.
Not that there was any risk of me spending money on seeing this junk, but I now feel comfortable not having wasted $15 on it. Not Warners' intent when they posted the clip, but works for me.

  • Mike says:

This is actually the most engaging, interesting part of the film. The problems come when the actors open their mouths.

  • Sanford says:

Shame that so many people slag this work. Snyder did a terrific job of layering the movie, adding his own panache and making a visually arresting, glorious story that really hits long after you have watched it.
Mark my words: the Shawshank Redemption flopped in theaters when it was released. I think SuckerPunch will have a similar bump - long after the critics have moved onto the next hot Hollywood story.
I noticed something - have you seen how the logo changed from the original release version to the ones in this clip? Intriguing, no?

  • Harry says:

The first 6 mins were the best part. the fight scenes were cool, but a pretty big waste.
