Don't Worry, the Years-Off Spider-Man Sequel Has a Screenwriter Attached

Barely two months have past since Sony unveiled the first glimpse of Andrew Garfield wearing his ribcage-flattering Amazing Spider-Man leotard, and already Columbia has given the thumbs up to the sequel's screenwriter. Who is the mystery scribe? Is it Michael Arndt, fresh off of Toy Story 3? Jane Campion? Paddy Chayefsky? Click through for the fresh scandal.

Why, it's The Amazing Spider-Man's screenwriter, James Vanderbilt! He'll be returning to pen the second installment in the new franchise. Vanderbilt's approach to the series is allegedly to focus on character development as opposed to visual whizzbang, which is nothing but a welcome idea. If superhero movies are going to thrive for the next 50 years (and I suspect they will), this approach needs to become standard. I won't want to sympathize with my grandkids one day when they're also sick of superhero movies.
