Did Whoopi Goldberg Smoke Pot Before Winning Her Best Supporting Actress Oscar?

Rule No. 1 of the Internet: If you say something in front of a camera at any point in your life, the chances are good someone will post it online. Eventually. Even if it's on a VHS tape that needs the tracking adjusted. Back in 1992 -- while recording voice over for The Pagemaster, of course -- Whoopi Goldberg recounted the tale of how she smoked pot before winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the 1991 Oscars. Take it away, Whoop!

"I learned a great lesson: Never smoke pot before there's a possibility of having to talk to unfamiliar people," Goldberg says in the 1992 video obtained by TMZ. "Smoking cigarettes and pot every now and then are my habits. And so I said, I've got to relax. And so I smoked this wonderful joint, that was the last of my homegrown. And honey -- when [Denzel Washington] said my name, and I popped up, I thought, 'Oh, f*ck. Oh f*ck. OK, up the stairs -- one, two, three, four, five -- around to the podium. There's millions of people! Pick up the statute! Get the statue!'"

She continued: "My mother called me and she said, 'You smoked, didn't you? [...] Your eyes were just as glisten-y. [...] [I] panicked, so I got that tape -- the Oscar tape -- to see whether or not you could tell, and you couldn't."

Let's leave that up to the beloved Movieline community to decide, Whoopi. Can you tell she's a little bit high while accepting the Academy Award? Watch her speech here.
