Did the Foo Fighters Slam Glee Just to Get Press For Their New Documentary?

Say you're a band with a project to promote. The easiest way to get some quick media attention is by picking a fight with a hugely popular entertainment entity (or Charlie Sheen), since the press is desperate for any new story involving said entity. With that understanding then, is it merely coincidental that the Foo Fighters decided to start trashing Glee just in time for the premiere of their documentary, Foo Fighters: Back and Forth?

Shortly after premiering the Foo Fighters' documentary at SXSW, the band's frontman Dave Grohl spoke out about the pressure for bands to license their songs to Ryan Murphy's song and dance series on Fox.

"It's every band's right, you shouldn't have to do f*cking Glee," Grohl told THR. "And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we're not, like, begging to be on his f*cking show... f*ck that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee."

Why don't you tell us what you really think about Ryan Murphy, then?

"What a f*cking jerk," Grohl added. "Slash was the first one. [Ryan Murphy] wanted to do Guns N' Roses and Slash is like, 'I hate f*cking musicals. It's worse than Grease.' Then [Murphy's] like, 'Well, of course he'd say that, he's a washed up ol' rock star, that's what they f*cking do.' And then Kings of Leon say, 'No, we don't want to be on your show.' And then he's like, 'Snotty little a**holes...' And it's just like, 'Dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included."

Judging from those statements, it's safe to say that you won't be hearing Finn sing "Everlong" or "My Hero" anytime soon (unless Gwyneth Paltrow brokers peace between Ryan Murphy and the latest band to take aim at his Fox series). Fortunately though, you can hear the Foo Fighters sing their own classics during the new U.S. tour that they (coincidentally?) just announced, which kicks off in April.
