The Russian X-Men: First Class trailer has more of everything -- More special effects, more banter (in Russian), more heroes and... more footage of what look like concentration camps. Actually, the way the epic, melodramatic music plays over this footage, you'd swear the studio was begging for Oscar nominations and not a vote of confidence from hipsters and comic book geeks. Watch your back, Super 8!
Sure, the music might just be a cultural thing. It's also completely possible that the extra dialogue is terrible and I just can't tell because it's in Russian. Regardless, the slick marriage of music and visuals here was enough to convince me for at least a second that this movie might be the most important event of my life. And I didn't really care about an X-Men reboot before now!
Seriously though, the footage itself takes on an even more epic scale here than in the American trailer. It looks like director Matthew Vaughn took a cleaner approach to filming the action and special-effects than we usually see in the genre, as each set piece is well-framed and totally coherent. Plus that shot of Havoc in the burning room is fantastic.
Verdict: I'd like to hear a bit more of the dialogue in English, but it's looking promising...
