Today in Ridiculous Face-Offs: The Trailer for Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula

All right, forget Zombies vs. Robots vs. Pirates vs. Aliens altogether. After this trailer for Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula, I'm sort of just hoping for a total moratorium on movies with "Vs." in the title (except for Sci-Fi Channel Movies). This includes low-budget movies meant to go straight to video that are somehow getting a theatrical release instead. Otherwise, I imagine that Scarface vs. Han Solo vs. Crocosaurus is right around the corner.

So yes, this is a movie about Bonnie and Clyde fighting Dracula, and also a number of other vampires. Both of the lead actors have appeared in far more movies than Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had when they played the infamous duo, but ninety percent of those credits are extra-work and direct to video movies, so I guess I'll quit with that comparison. Besides surprisingly decent production values for a low-buget period piece, the trailer is about what you'd expect; Gunfights and Southern drawls galore with a bit of seductive titillation and CGI blood.

Probably the most interesting aspect is the way that Bonnie's last line seems to negate almost all of the wall-to-wall gunplay we were subjected to in the previous minute. Subversive self-parody or just tone-deaf, inept filmmaking? I'll leave it up to you. Anyway, according to Apple, this hits theaters March 18.

Verdict: Only if you are in Junior High and having a lot of friends over.
