Quick, Let's Name 50 Songs Glee Should Never Cover and Save Their Souls

nirvanaglee225.jpgLet me be clear: Though I'm a Glee hater, I enjoy and endorse some of the show's interesting song choices. During the Madonna episode, I liked the pep assembly version of "4 Minutes" and the all-male rendition of "What It Feels Like for a Girl" because they were unexpected tunes with unexpected singers. But most of the time Glee resorts to overly familiar hits, cheapens them, and shoehorns them into maddening storylines. That can be a tolerable practice, but let's set aside 50 examples of untouchable pop majesty for Glee immunity. Add your own, please.

  • G says:

There's no way they aren't going to do"You’re So Vain.” At least it's sanctity has already been violated by "How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days."

  • stolidog says:

today is opposite day, so, i'm going to suggest that they DO cover:
Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. I can dream of lots of scenarios where that song would be appropriate.

  • Louis Virtel says:

Thought of choosing "Anticipation" instead, but I think How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is less soul-crushy than a Heinz commercial.

  • NP says:

I haven't seen every episode so hopefully I'm not saying anything they've already done, but..
Anything by the Pet Shop Boys.
See also: Anything from Liza Minnelli's PSB-produced album, _Results_.
    Anything by Depeche Mode.
    "Do You Want to Dance?"
"Dedicated to the One I Love"
    "Then He Kissed Me"
    "Where the Boys Are"

I have to admitt that I love glee, I would add to the list radiohead repertory, they day glee do something of them i will turn off the tv

  • jen says:

I'm a Gleek, never miss an episode, have every song on my iPod. I'm also a huge music fan. I think they should avoid any Barry Manilow, Josh Groban and Nirvana tunes. Also, if I hear one more Journey cover, I'll break my tv.

  • TurdBlossom says:

Agree 100% with PSB and DM.

  • bib fortuna says:

however, they NEED to do Closer by Nine Inch Nails.

  • The Cantankerist says:

Well done, guys. Once again, you've provided the producers with a target list. I wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to do them all, just to spite you.

  • S.T. VanAirsdale says:

    "Sister Ray"
"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"
    "I Know It's Over"
    "Love Comes in Spurts"
    "Vamos"
    "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
    "Young Americans"
Seriously, Ryan Murphy, don't even think about it.

  • Tommy Marx says:

Whole heartedly agree with leaving the Pet Shop Boys alone. I would also prefer that they steer clear from Def Leppard. The thought of any of them sing "Love Bites" makes me nauseous.

  • WE never ever appreciated the beatles! how can people like a human being so phony? in my opinion might as well get back to trying to be pretty.

  • Annie says:

I just noticed that Fleetwood Mac's songbird is on this list, which has been covered on the show. And quite beautifully, if I may add.
