The King of Bad Taste and newly-dubbed national treasure, John Waters, was in attendance yesterday at the Independent Spirit Awards and spoke to Movieline's Carly Steel about his deep, abiding respect for Justin Bieber, what the Biebs might have to do to win an Oscar (hint: practice finding a working vein, Justin!) and Banksy's super-secret identity.

Frankly, I like John's insane junkie suggestion for Justin Bieber. And I fully believe in John's power to coax a good performance from the Biebs -- after all, if he can squeeze some good acting out of Tab Hunter, Pia Zadora and Mink Stole, he should be able to handle the wooden roboticism of Justin Bieber.
