G.I. Joe Sequel Now In The Hands Of Justin Bieber Director Jon M. Chu

Fresh from directing America's favorite Canadian (sorry Anne Murray) in Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Jon M. Chu has now been handed the reins of the real American heroes, G.I. Joe in their upcoming sequel. But not everyone may return for the ride!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Cobra Commander may not return for the second go-round, to which I say booooo! Gordon-Levitt was the best thing about the gleefully dumb first one (in which I learned that, for purposes of an action sequence, ice will sink), so I hope they can bring him back. Sienna Miller is also unlikely to return, but the studio plans to recast her role as the Baroness. Channing Tatum's Duke will be back, however, and I'm sure will have the same type of gratuitous shirtless scene as he did for the first.

Chu evidently takes G.I. Joe very seriously, telling Movieweb

Joe, to me, is iconic. It is as American as Coke and the Boy Scouts. To have that kind of history in a brand is so rare these days. And that is so powerful. So you can't treat Joe like its just another action movie. . .It has heart. Its heart is what America, and what heroes and leaders around the world, strive to be.

And while I definitely appreciate that Chu is committed to a less cartoonishly campy take on G.I. Joe, I think he might want to take a moment, have a deep breath, and remember: they're just based on dolls, not shards of the Liberty Bell.
