Paula Patton Finally Scores A Rom Com Lead In Jumping The Broom

For all those wondering just when the gorgeous and enigmatic Paula Patton would land her first leading role, wonder no more. The talented actress is heading up the cast of Jumping the Broom, playing a pretty and wealthy young Manhattanite marrying the man on her dreams -- but not getting along with his mother. Drama!

For her first foray into the land of leading ladydom, Patton has surrounded herself with a pretty all-star cast. Angela Basset as her mother, Mike Epps, Julie Bowen and Glee's newest nun Loretta Devine. Not to mention Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell.

The film seems to have taken a page from the Nancy Meyers school of interior design porn, with sumptuous outdoor couches, beautifully designed dinners and the tranquil setting of Martha's Vineyard. Just like every family wedding!

Patton looks radiant throughout as does Bassett, who it is always nice to see. Devine hits her marks as the mean and amusing mother of the groom and the always funny Tasha Smith seems to be perfectly cast as the comedic foil to Devine.

Verdict: Appealing leads and the feel that you're on a Martha Vineyard's vacation for a fraction of the price? Sold.

This looks like another eye-roll worthy rom com, but I'm just glad a mainstream film with two black leads will be released.
Let's just keep our fingers crossed that the studio doesn't decide to turn it's back on it and send it straight to DVD.

From TriStar and T.D. Jakes? That about says it all.
